Margarita María de Santa Teresita Vargas Gaviria (Medellín, October 3, 1960) is a Colombian singer, nationalized Mexican; of cumbia, bachata, boleros, vallenato and tropical music known artistically as Margarita La Diosa de la Cumbia. She has been awarded by the Colombian Senate with the Order of Knight in 2012 for her artistic work and work to spread Colombian culture abroad, mainly in Mexico. Where she has demonstrated the affection she has for this country, creating songs inspired by the beauty of the different states of the Mexican Republic. On February 27, 2018, through her Instagram account, she officially announced her Mexican nationalization.
