モノブライト (also monobright or MONOBRIGHT) is a Japanese rock band. They formed in June 2006 and their big break came in 2007 upon their signing to DefSTAR RECORDS, Japan. They were active as a five-piece band from November 2010 to November 2012. Motoki Matsuoka was the music producer for the band until their seventh single, " Kodoku no Taiyo," and they have been self-producing ever since. Their genre is often described as Shimokita kei, Pop Rock, Alternative rock or Power Pop. They have been on hiatus from 2017 until 2025.

They played their last gig before their hiatus at COUNTDOWN JAPAN 17/18 in December 2017. Their last one man before their hiatus of their tour "monobright × MONOBRIGHT × モノブライト 2007-2017" took place on December 20th 2017 at Sound Lab mole, Hokkaido. It was called "Mata aimashou" (Let's meet again soon).
On June 24th 2025 they started a 10 day countdown on their Twitter account leading to the announcement of their comeback/reunion on July 4th 2025. They announced two concerts at Shibuya and Umeda Quattro for February 2026 (monobright one man live 2026 "Jumping Jack Flash") and uploaded their indie release "monobright zero" from 2007 on streaming services. They also opened an Instagram and TikTok account.

After the hiatus, he began performing as a soloist and singer, and was the lead vocalist for the duo buddy music unit Hocori and for HGYM , a tribute band to musician Yasumasa Hashiguchi, who passed away suddenly in 2016 from ischemic heart disease .

松下省伍 (Matsushita Shougo) - Guitar (& Vocals)

Formed in Hokkaido in 2006[7], they moved from Sapporo to Tokyo in January 2007 and released the mini-album "monobright zero" from the indie label HIGH WAVE in March of the same year. In July of the same year, they made their major debut with the single "Mikansei Riot" from Defstar Records.

On January 14, 2009, they released their fifth single "Anata MAGIC", which was used as the opening theme for the anime "Gintama". This was the band's first anime tie-up. This single was a smash hit, ranking in the Oricon weekly TOP 10 for the first time.

On February 6, 2009, they announced that they would be shedding their polo shirts, glasses, and jeans with the release of their second album "monobright two" and embarking on their second chapter[7]. On October 17 of the same year, "Kodoku no Taiyo" was used as the theme song for the Nippon Television drama Samurai High School, which became their first drama tie-up.

On February 12 of the following year, they announced their activities from 2010 to spring 2011 in a single announcement titled "monobright DO10 (Raging Waves)!! Attack Declaration"[8]. On November 1 of the same year, they announced the addition of a fifth member (who had gotten married) and that they would change the band's name from lowercase "monobright" to uppercase "MONOBRIGHT". Two weeks later, it was announced that the new member was Hidaka Toru, formerly of BEAT CRUSADERS.[7]

After Hidaka joined, they released two albums, two singles, and one mini-album (described as "making babies"). For their fifth album, Shinzo Liverations, they produced an original album of live recordings.[9]

On October 12, 2012, Hidaka announced his departure (divorce) at the end of the year's tour.[10][11]

On December 28, 2012, the first live performance since the original lineup returned, COUNTDOWN JAPAN 1213, the band once again wore the new uniform, a white polo shirt with a logo on the chest, black-rimmed glasses, and black skinny jeans.[7]

On April 28, 2015, Takitani announced his departure from the band at the end of the tour in June of that year.[7] On October 15, the same year, it was announced that the first solo live show as a three-member lineup, "Monobright LIVE 2016 bright eyes," would be held in Tokyo and Osaka in January 2016. In addition, with the start of the new lineup, the band name was unified to katakana writing.[7]

On April 20, 2016, the first full album since the new lineup, "Bright Ground Music," was released.[12] On October 12 of the same year, they released a self-cover album "VerSus" [13].

On October 1, 2017, they announced that they would suspend their band activities after the final performance of their nationwide tour "monobright × MONOBRIGHT × Monobright 2007-2017" which will begin on November 28 of the same year [14] [15].

On January 8, 2021, in commemoration of the movie "Gintama THE FINAL", the theme songs for the anime "Gintama", "Anata MAGIC" and "Moonwalk", were released on subscription services. Later, in March of the same year, all songs were released on subscription services [16].

On July 4, 2024, it was announced that they would hold a one-man live show "Shin Bright Hentai ☆ One Maman" at Shindaita FEVER in Tokyo on December 28 of the same year, and make a one-day comeback [17].
