Born in Damascus, Syria, Asala is the daughter of the renowned Syrian composer and singer, Mostafa Nasri. She began her musical career at the age of four, performing patriotic, religious, and children's songs.
She sang the opening theme song "Qessas Al Sho'oub" (Arabic: قصص الشعوب) for the cartoon show Hekayat Alamiyah (Arabic: حكايات عالمية). In 1986, at 17, she lost her father and helped her mother, Azizah, care for her siblings: Reem, Amani, Ayman, and Ayham.
In 1991, Asala debuted her musical career with the album Law Ta'rafou (Arabic: لو تعرفو). Composed of four songs in the oriental operatic tarab style, the album became an instant hit, driven by emotional songs like "Ya Sabra Yana" and "Samehtak Ketir."
