Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, alternative rock band Vary Lumar formed in 2004. Consisting of Paul DePasquale (vocals, guitar, keys), Robert Laff (bass, guitar, keys), Christopher G. Brown (guitar, synths), and Rob Fusco (drums, synths), Vary Lumar is known for their penchant for smart, textured, and catchy post-prog rock and a live show as dynamic and ethereal as that of Pink Floyd, The Cure, or Radiohead. Their music has been used in commercials by Anthropologie, W Magazine, Wall Street Journal, and Bassike Clothing (Australia), as well as an ad for Soles For Souls, which aired at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.

Early on, the band cut their teeth playing clubs in Boston and New York City. Debut album Waiting Room (2008) showed a versatile sound based around an alternative rock core, creating a complex blend of dark psychedelic rock, pop, instrumental soundscapes, electronic, and jazz. The album received airplay on over 150 radios stations nationwide, and received Performer Magazine’s Album of the Month and other awards. Followup album The Jig Is Up (2011) emerged from frontman Paul DePasquale’s journey with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Lyrically, The Jig Is Up expresses with brutal honesty the hollowness of man, while being forced to take a hard look at oneself. Following more critical praise, promotional dates, and radio play, original guitarist Ben Case amicably parted ways to explore other musical endeavors.

Capture (2013) marked a continued evolution of Vary Lumar’s style, refreshing the band musically and pleasantly surprising critics with “the stellar moonlight pop of the six song EP”. Shortly after the release, long time friend and Boston musician Christopher G. Brown (The Difference Engine, 8mm Fuzz) accepted an invitation to join the band. The EP was featured on FNX's Boston Accents, WMFO's On The Town With Mikey Dee and The Dweezil Show, and on a Boston Phoenix Mix Tape. Online music magazine Vanyaland’s Year in ReView segment highlighted Capture as a year-end favorite.
Vary Lumar is proving that the only thing stronger than their desire to make great music is their resolve to overcome the highs and lows and use them to push themselves creatively. They will be celebrating their tenth birthday this year with several new releases and projects, and having more fun than ever. Read more on Last.fm.
