Gill Civil is a New Zealand composer who has had diverse experience ranging from composing music for some of the top dance schools and companies throughout Australasia and Canada, to playing keyboards with rock bands. During the early eighties, she toured and recorded with N.Z. bands “Rhythm Method” and “The Bongos” and later formed “Marie and the Atom” an experimental music project. In this group Gill played instruments ranging from electric organ to banjo and steel drums, and produced several innovative recordings for the Flying Nun label. In 2009 one of her songs from the “Yellow Read Aloud” album - “Isol” - was featured as the title music for a New Zealand television series entitled "The Good Word".)

Between 1984 -1988 Gill lived in Melbourne, Australia where she worked as a dance accompanist for the “Victorian College of the Arts". While in Melbourne she wrote three major dance performance pieces including a work for “The Australian Dance Theatre” and in 1986 toured as keyboardist for Australia’s foremost pop band of the time – “Crowded House”.

Since 1988, Gill has been living in Vancouver, Canada with her husband – composer/producer Edwin Dolinski. They have two children – Emerson and Siena. During this time she has continued to compose for many mediums including dance, film and orchestra. Highlights include a multi-media orchestral production in 1990 called "Yondi", a 1992 film entitled “Fine Amour”, and a 1995 recording called “Procession” - a work for Flying Nun's “Shrew’d - A Compilation of New Zealand Women’s Music”. In 2008 a new choral version of “Yondi”, scored for voices, piano and didgeridoo received it’s world premier on B.C.'s Sunshine Coast.

Currently, Gill is recording “Dancing Keys 2”, the follow up to her successful “Dancing Keys” CD, which features original piano compositions for the dance class. This music can be heard on her website: www.pianomusicforballet.com
