Sergeant Buzfuz are a South London septet led by songwriter Joe Murphy who also plays solo and co-runs the Blang record label. Joe's songs are a mixture of the pop, post-punk and folk he grew up listening to in Sheffield and the Irish story-telling tradition of his ancestors.

2015 album "Balloons For Thin Linda" has been critically acclaimed and there will be a feature on the band in the July/August issue of R2 magazine.

Previous album “Go To The Devil And Shake Yourself” (2012) was championed by Gideon Coe, who played tracks seven times on BBC 6 and novelist Ian Rankin, who listed it in his top 20 albums of the year. Joe and Polly performed “Go To The Devil And Shake Yourself” as an Edinburgh Free Fringe show in 2012.

Sergeant Buzfuz have played live BBC 6 sessions for Marc Riley and Tom Robinson (twice).

Joe has toured solo in Ireland, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and the USA.

For ten years (2002-2012) Joe ran the monthly Blang nights at London’s 12 Bar Club which gave birth to the Blang label in 2005.

Joe contributes a song to "Shirley Collins Inspired", a triple vinyl album of covers of songs sung by the Sussex folk icon due 2015 on Fire's subsidiary Earth label, alongside contributions from Alasdair Roberts, Will Oldham, Graham Coxon, Lee Ranaldo and Tuung.

Joe has collaborated onstage with Jeffrey Lewis and Thomas Truax and on recordings with Chris T-T and The Band Of Holy Joy. He has co-written a song, “The Pint Of No Return”, with Tom Robinson (as yet un-recorded).
