The Busymen formed in Brisbane in 1997 when vocalist Robert Smith befriended guitarist David Crawford and bass player Richard Buchanan. They were fans of 60's garage rock music and decided to form a band to help revive it and enlisted drummer Ben Jones from local bands Blowhard, Dream Poppies and Godnose to complete the line-up. Jones departed the band in 1998 to focus on his other bands, and then Crawford left in early 2000. Smith and Buchanan started a new line-up featuring guitarist Joey Mann and Scott Lapthorne on guitar and drums. In 2001 Mann quit the band to be replaced by Rob Worrall and new drummer Liam Cusack, who also played drums in The DangerMen. This lineup recorded two singles "I'm Feeling Hostile" and "Peach Orchard Road" on Wild Eagle Records. The former was the last record to be ever made at the prestigious Red Zeds studios. Despite the band's changing roster of drummers, they developed a tough and tight garage sound accentuated by Smith's primitive growling vocals and Worrall's array of effects pedals which he used to enhance their sound.
By 2006, Smith had also taken up playing organ and the band had become very in-demand on the live circuit as well as doing interstate tours in Sydney, Woollongong, Adelaide and Melbourne.
The band's one and only album "Distort All Levels" was released in late 2007 on the Turkeyneck label, with most of it being original material written by Worrall. The band now consisted of Smith (organ and vocals), Buchanan (bass and vocals), Worrall (guitars), and Danielle "Danger" Mutton (drums). In late 2008, Smith's health deteriorated and the Busymen quietly disbanded in January 2009 when Worrall and Buchanan decided to leave the band. Read more on Last.fm.
