A potted history...

Monica’s Last Prayer began life in the early 1990s, as a side project for Paul Broome (guitarist with Goth band Earth Calling Angela). Several 4-track demo cassettes were recorded and circulated in the mid-90s. In 1996 Mick Mercer called Paul “a modern-day weeping equivalent to Nick Drake” in his book The Hex Files. After working on several other projects in the early years of this century, Paul returned to Monica’s Last Prayer in 2004 – rearranging and re-recording some of the old four-track songs. The result was the album Another Time, released in January 2005 by Humane Music – a catalog of MLP’s history, and a gentle nudge toward the future.

The 2005 album, Transparent, was somewhat of a departure from the reverb-soaked reverie of what has gone before, but it also felt like a natural progression. It had its feet in similar edgy territory to the likes of recent Depeche Mode and The Cure, but at the same time retained a gentle poignancy that was uniquely Monica’s Last Prayer.

In the first week of every month of 2007 a brand new MLP track was made available for download on myspace - ultimately forming the new 12-track Monica's Last Prayer album, 'Prayerbook'. The full track list for the album was 'January: Blue', 'February: Valentine', 'March: Pieces', 'April: Seasick', 'May: Land', 'June: Reverie', 'July: Omen', 'August: Prayerbook', 'September: Youths', 'October: Clarity', 'November: Two' and 'December: Celebrate'.

All twelve tracks were reworked and remastered in June 2008, and the CD version of the album is now available for free download from http://monicaslastprayer.bandcamp.com (where 'Another Time', and 'Transparent' can also be downloaded).

An new 35 minute EP of 'lost' material, recorded between 2004 and 2009, was released in August 2010. Entitled 'One Man's Isolation Epics' the EP is also available for free download from the band's Bandcamp page.

Hot on the heels of that followed a mini-LP of entirely new material recorded over an intense couple of weeks in October and November 2010. Released on December the 1st 2010, 'The Buried Life' is a 6 track album available exclusively for download at the Bandcamp page (on a 'name your price' basis).

3-track single, 'Revolutions', released 28th March 2011.

The album 'A Life Of Painted Dirt' - which to some extent continued the post-punk minimalism of 'The Buried Life' - was released on the 9th of April 2012. The album included 12 brand new tracks and 3 remixes - one contributed by Miles Fender of Earth Calling Angela, one by Roger Frace of The Machine in the Garden, and another by Paul. The album has by far been the most successful in the band's history.

There is also the on-going occasional 'Random:Damorn' project, which is an evolving album of covers - again only available at the Bandcamp site. It features MLP covers of a random selection of songs - some suggested, others just loved songs...

On the horizon - remixes for other bands, more covers, more remixes, and more new material...
