ZAWEZO…
the new latino wave & the power of one!

BIOGRAPHY

In every music genre there comes an artist that challenges the very definition of that music genre. Their musicality sets a new standard that almost redefines the familiar understanding and acquaintance you have with the music you know and love. Such is the case with Zawezo and his debut solo album; El Circo.

With the power of one… himself, Zawezo is establishing a new Latino wave. His solo debut album; El Circo takes you through almost every human emotion both in English and Spanish interchanging the two cultures musically to the point where they become one unique sound… Zawezo Del Patio.

Born in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, and raised in Haina, DR, Alex Garcia (a.k.a. Zawezo Del'Patio) found himself passionate about music at an early age. As a child, Zawezo enjoyed listening to American hip hop such as; Naughty by Nature, Wu Tang Clan, and MC Hammer just to name a few. However his musical taste did not end there acts like Michael Jackson and swing music inspired him to discover all music. Although he did not speak English, he soon learned how to sing every word and dance every step he saw in American videos. As far back as he could remember he sang and danced; recognizing his natural talent, Zawezo realized at an early age that he was born to pursue a career in music.

As young as ten years old Zawezo began entering street battles in towns throughout his home country: Haina, San Cristobal, Los Mina, Enzanche, Ozama, Santo Domingo. Thru the process of winning and losing, Zawezo realized that each challenge was an opportunity to express himself and find his own unique voice.

After winning so many battles Zawezo was encouraged to take his street battles to the next level; the local clubs. Although he would face much older artists, his art prevailed enabling him to win his share of medals and trophies. Even at 16 during his tour of duty in the Dominican Republic Air Force, Zawezo still continued his music, battles and street venues. Music was now his life

It wasn’t until a few years later while competing with a group he created called, Fine Boys that Zawezo received recognition. A re-known local artist and role model; Microman while judging the group acknowledged Zawezo for his potential and talent awarding the Fine Boys with the winning trophy. It was then Zawezo felt that his talent was something special. Separate from the rest

Now 19, Zawezo’s life as he knew it was uprooted. His father brought him to New York to live in the Bronx. With his desire for music running thru his veins Zawezo became acquainted with local musicians and rapidly learned to speak English. It was there in the Bronx streets, the birthplace of Hip Hop that Zawezo’s met his future recording partner Sensato and together they created the group Del'Patio; the next chapter in his musical career.

Del'Patio was first known as the underground urban hip-hop group from NY. They broke ground in the industry as one of the only groups at that time singing and rapping in Spanish. Their notoriety spread like wildfire within the industry and their fan base expanded just as fast. Similar to when he was home in DR, Zawezo and now his new partner began to win competitions everywhere but unlike home each winning brought him deeper into the business of music. His partner the front man and Zawezo the visual and musical mastermind of the group Del Patio the dynamic duo knew they were destined for success because the industry was their co-sign. The duo was named "Artists of Tomorrow" in New York by Bridgez magazine. They began appearing everywhere; Univision's Sabado Gigante, (Latin American television's #1 program), MTV3's "Sucker Free Latino" , Mundos, a Univision Channel and in 2008 Radio & Records Magazine listed one of their songs as the #6 most played single by Latino DJs in the U.S. Yet all that glitter is not gold. Zawezo learned quickly that the music business is a business and at times money is over everything even partnerships. Their hit single; “Watagatapitusberry” taught him lessons about the business that made him decide to become the power of one and launch his solo career.

It was back to the lab for Zawezo, this time creating the sound of Zawezo. Combining his song ideas with leading producers within the business Zawezo took almost one and half years to create the birth of El Ciro his solo project. As the sole author, director, photographer, videographer, editor and producer of album’s videos Zawezo has painted a visual image and a musical movement that can not compare to what you knew him for as Del Patio. Zawezo explains: “ The greatest show on earth is the circus. I call my debut solo album “El Ciro” (The Circus) because I want to give my fans the greatest music and show ever!. I want them know I appreciate them and only want to give them my best.”

Zawezo’s sincere desire to create something uniquely Zawezo has spawned The eponymous single; "La Independencia," “The Independent” celebrates his freedom to be himself but also showcases his street swag. The booming bass and kicking drums with his compassionately delivered and poignant lyrics sets the tone for the album and lets you know Zawezo is doing him for him, by him and with him! Yet songs like “Me and My Cup” show the fun side of Zawezo. His ability to let loose and enjoy makes you the listener learn how not to take life so serious. However the single from the album; “Un Romo de Flores” (Bouquet of Flowers) shows the grown man within the artist Zawezo. Ladies this record is for you.

Yes, “El Circo is definetly one of the greatest showcasing of individual art with an impact that has not hit the latin music scene in years. All that is left for you to do is either click download or press play.
