Dance music duo RHYME SO connects the floor-filling beats of Japan’s past with witty and cutting lyrical takes on contemporary life, refashioning familiar club sounds into a style pointing forward. Consisting of prolific producer and DJ Shinichi Osawa and emerging poet, producer and all-around performing powerhouse RHYME, this project is helping to craft a new era in electronic sound.

The two, as RHYME SO started making music they dub “Blank Post Genre,” a concept centered around creating a blank canvas in response to a digital age overflowing with information. It’s a way for sonic refresh, allowing Osawa and RHYME to craft rumbling dance music complete with lyrics poking at modern life.
Everything has been brewing up to their debut album that dropped November 24th 2023 titled “IAFB” featuring Seiko Oomori with never seen before acronyms that are turning heads their way. LIKE ‘I Am Fuckin’ Brilliant’!!!!!! RHYME SO

Their hypnotic debut single “Just Used Music Again” came out via 88Rising, and appeared on their 2019 compilation Head In The Clouds II.

In the spring of 2020, RHYME SO shared new song “Fashion Blogger,” highlighting RHYME’s tongue-in-cheek approach to lyrics. It also featured a video featuring her and RuPaul’s Drag Race alum MILK set in the world of figure skating. That clip has attracted over 3 million views, and helped introduce many more to RHYME SO.

They’ve been releasing more songs in the months since, including 2021 single “POSEABLE” released by 88Rising and celebrated Japanese entertainment company Avex.

Early 2023, RHYME SO collaborated with british sensation Sophie Ellis-Bextor in mega dance hit cover of “Deep In Vogue” by Malcolm McLaren. The song included a homage style music video that has garnered accolades from the VOGUE community.

They followed up shortly with single “TYO - NYC” with the buzzing Japanese-american rapper KAZUO bridging their worlds between the west and east together sharing a similar story between the two big cities. Another asian territory bridge crossed in October with mystic song “magick” featuring mega Vietnamese artist TÁO also expanded their single catalogue into something other worldly.

As the world opens its doors to music from around the world — especially from Asia — RHYME SO set their focus on sharing their sounds with global listeners, particularly by appearing at festivals and showcasing their diverse soundtracking skills. Both Shinichi Osawa and RHYME were known to score Japanese mega movie ‘DINER’ and award winning anime ‘BANANA FISH’

They aren’t just representing themselves, but also aim to show the cutting edge of modern Japanese dance music through energy filled story telling, song and dance. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
