Damn Thing Called Love Lyrics

I've been down and out but never this low before
And sometimes felt left out but never outside your door
We've been far apart but never this far, oh girl
I can't bridge the distance, baby, anymore

If you love me then just show me
But if you don't, then go on baby
With yourself and do what you wanna do with your life
And leave me alone

'Cause I'm cryin' for your lovin'
And I'm hopin' that this feelin' will die
But if it don't then girl, you've ruined my world
For the last time

I've got this damn thing called love
I've got it for ya but it just ain't enough
So I just watch my heart break
With every chance I take with you, with you

I'm out of my mind for love
Givin' you all just ain't enough
What am I supposed to do
To get with you, baby, lady, hey?

Yes, other girls have been good to me
But they never did the things you did for love
I guess you must have had to love me a lot
To spare the pain that you could rid me of

We've grown so far apart
From used to be so intertwined
No more love you baby
In the middle of the night

If you love me, well then show me
But if you don't then go on baby
With yourself and do what you wanna do with your life
Just leave me alone baby

'Cause I'm cryin' for your lovin'
And I'm hopin' that this feelin' will die
But if it don't then girl, you've ruined my world
For the last time

I've got this damn thing called love
I've got it for ya but it just ain't enough
So I just watch my heart break
With every chance I take with you, with you

I'm out of my mind for love
Givin' you all just ain't enough
What am I supposed to do
To get with you, baby, lady, hey?

Whoa yeah, ooh yeah
Baby, yeah, ooh, baby
I don't know what to do lady
To keep [Incomprehensible]

Oh, come home back, baby
Oh, don't you know? Don't you know?
Don't you know? Don't you know?

If you love me then you'll show me
But if you don't then go on baby
With yourself and do what you wanna do with your life
Leave me alone

But I'm cryin' for your lovin'
And I'm hopin' that this feelin' will subside
But if it don't then girl, you've ruined my world
For the last time

I've got this damn thing called love
And I've got it for ya but it just ain't enough
So I just watch my heart break
With every chance I take with you, with you

I'm out of my mind for love
Givin' you all just ain't enough
What am I supposed to do
To get with you, baby, lady, hey?

I've got this damn thing called love
And I've got it for ya but it just ain't enough
So I just watch my heart break
With every chance I take with you, with you

After 7 was an R&B group, founded in 1988 by brothers Melvin and Kevon Edmonds and Keith Mitchell. The Edmonds brothers are the older siblings of popular pop and R&B singer-songwriter Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds" while Mitchell is the cousin of Babyface's then-partner, songwriter-producer Antonio "L.A." Reid.

The band released their first album issued self-titled debut in autumn 1989, which included the hits, "Sayanora", "Heat of the Moment", "Can't Stop" and the quiet storm staple, "Ready or Not". After promoting the album and seeing it go to platinum, they scored a hit with the Motown-influenced "Nights Like This" on the 1991 soundtrack to The Five Heartbeats. The trio returned with 1992's Takin' My Time, which included the hit cover of The Originals' "Baby I'm For Real". The trio released their last album, with Reflections, in 1995, which included the hit, "'Til You Do Me Right". After Mitchell split from After 7 in 1997, the Edmonds brothers continued performing, releasing the cover of Hall & Oates' "Sara Smile" before silently disbanding that year.

The brothers continue to perform in venues for reunions. Both Kevon and Melvin Edmonds appear with Babyface in the film Soul Food, as members of the R&B group Milestone and performing the song "I Care About You". In 1999, Kevon Edmonds released a solo LP, which included the single "24/7." In 2006 they appeared on the New Jack Reunion Tour. Read more on Last.fm.
