Tina & The B-Side Movement (a.k.a. Tina & The B-Sides) was a rock/soul/blues band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. They were together from 1990 until 2000 and released six albums during that time, one every two years.
The line-up changed some over the years, except for Tina Schlieske herself, who sang lead vocals and played rhythm guitar; Tina's sister, Laura Schlieske, who sang back up; and Jeremy Plumb who played bass.
Other band members:
Pete Young - lead guitar, 1990-1994
Patrik Tanner - lead guitar, 1994-1996
Troy Norton - lead guitar, 1997-2000
Joel Richman - drums, 1990-1992
Bill Oehrlein - drums, 1992-1996
Ron Caron - drums, 1998-2000
The band's strength was in their live performances and they enjoyed a loyal local fan base while playing shows at Minneapolis-area bars and at outdoor music festivals.
The band released their self-titled CD, Tina and the B-Sides, in 1990.
Their biggest selling CD, Young Americans, was released in 1992.
With the release of Monster in 1994, the band picked up some momentum in attracting a more national audience.
In 1995, Seymour Stein, of Sire Records, saw the band perform at CBGB's in New York and signed them to the label. The band released their major-label debut, Salvation, in early 1996. Tina recorded this album in Los Angeles using session musicians in addition to her band.
In 1998, the band's fifth album, It's All Just The Same, was also released on Sire, but was recorded back home in Minnesota.
The official last release of the B-Sides, The Last Polka, is a live album featuring the fan's concert favorites. This double CD was recorded in 1999 at First Avenue in Minneapolis and released in 2000.
The band played their official last shows together in October of 2000. They came back together for a reunion show at the Minnesota Zoo and also released "A-Sides: The Best Of TBS" in July 2009.
