Rock the SAT is a collection of 13 songs. Each song uses approximately 20 vocabulary words commonly found on the SAT. Forty-five minutes of music later, you’ve got 264 vocabulary words that you can recall with the tap of your foot! You have no problem remembering the complete lyrics to TV commercial jingles you saw when you were six, rotating wildly on your Sit & Spin to get that awesome disorienting rush. Music has a way of finding your long-term memory centers and setting up shop. It’s probably the best method around for remembering lots of words.

Why these 264 words? We scoured recent SAT exams and a plethora (that’s a lot) of study guides to find the most frequently tested words. We’d bet good money that several, perhaps dozens, of them will appear on your SAT verbal section. Why ETS is hell-bent on testing and re-testing a word like “banal” is anyone’s guess, but we’ll make it easy for you to remember what it means.

The songs in Rock the SAT are real songs. In other words, they’re not just jingly, nursery rhyme-type tunes designed specifically to help you memorize. They were not written by uptight vocabulary geeks working full-time for some mega-SAT study guide super-center. They were written by the two musical geniuses on our team, David Mendelsohn and Michael Moshan, who live, write tunes and perform in downtown Manhattan. David and Michael are hip, brooding, poor, and, to hear them tell it, wickedly sexy studs who also happen to have very large vocabularies with which they fail to impress women. They wrote these tunes to be catchy, edgy and phat, using their massive talent for good instead of evil to produce what we feel is the best and most painless program around to help raise your scores on the SAT verbal.

These songs are not just lists of words; we’ve used the words in context so that their meanings are, if not completely obvious, easy to figure out. In some cases, you might not know the exact definition of a vocabulary word in the lyrics, but having some familiarity with it will give you an enormous advantage over the kid sitting next to you who hasn’t got a clue and is dripping sweatballs all over his bubble sheet.
