Nervous Wretch is an instrumental electronic artist from Rhode Island, USA. The stage name of Luke Capotosto, he started making music under the name in 2005, influenced by such acts as Nine Inch Nails, Bjork, Radiohead, Portishead and The Cure. He made eight albums between 2006 and 2010 (including two double albums), and then didn't make another album until 2017. During this interval, he continued creating new songs, but didn't finish them or organize them into albums, which left him with hundreds of unfinished songs. The best of these songs were later finished and used to make three albums.
Nervous Wretch's music is eclectic and often experimental, having been influenced by various genres such as trip hop, post-punk, krautrock, minimalism, industrial, post-rock, jazz, classical, psychedelic rock, and experimental music. Other significant influences include the Beatles' psychedelic period, Stereolab, Pink Floyd, Faith No More, and White Zombie. Not typical electronic music, it generally makes more use of organic and orchestral sounds than synths, and works outside of popular genres like EDM, lo-fi hip hop and trap.
His album "Edwin Floats Away", released in 2024, was a narrative concept album based on a short story he'd written ten years prior with an existential theme. His latest album is "My Work Here Is Dumb", his 16th. In the future, he plans to release a couple experimental albums - one using more old unfinished songs, and another of new ones.
