Bronx native DJ East 137 presents his debut album "Major Detour Ahead". East 137 hopes to share with listeners his development as a human being and artist. This release sets the stage for serious Hip Hop with deep roots in the unpredictable concrete environment of the South Bronx, New York City. Story driven lyrics are well placed over soul stirring melodies and commanding percussions. East 137 says, "The music released thus far presents an autobiography". "Book of Rhymes" was the "step out the gate" single that spans two decades of sheer madness and anchors East 137's credibility in the rap game, "Emergency" reaches out to misguided young folk, "This Time" depicts an important loss, "Thoughts" is a DJ's autobiography, "What's It Going to Take?" takes a protest stance against social intolerance, and "El Sol" celebrates the Sun. "Think It Through" and "States of the Blind" are the most recent additions. They chime in on the latest in social turbulence.

East 137 began a music career as a disc-jockey. He polished his turntable skills on the Bronx playgrounds of Mitchell, Mott Haven, and Millbrook public housing projects where he was best known for his clever turntable mixing routines. He enjoyed the benefits of DJ work until a particular substance emerged and perforated those neighborhoods. The impact the substance had on the community changed the social landscape such that performing on the playgrounds was no longer safe. The terrain became hostile and downright dangerous. The cumulative reality of those times influenced "Major Detour Ahead" in which East 137 merges Hip Hop rhythms and poignant subjective everyday life depictions that listeners will either relate to, or profoundly wonder about.

Post his street disc-jockey days, East 137 recorded for B-Boy Records. Rights to his recordings were later acquired by A Get Wit It® Productions Records through which DJ East 137 officially entered the Hip-Hop ring. GWIP recordings have received notable airplay on New York's 98.7 Kiss FM, 107.5 WBLS, and WQHT 97.1's specialty Hip-Hop mix shows. GWIP early recordings are high level collectors' items attracting premium dollars around the world for mint condition vinyl copies.

The street disc-jockey turned record producer would later emerge on "Hood Related® Entertainment Records". His first release "Book of Rhymes" walks you through a span of twelve years of life in a New York county that was forever changed by turbulent times. East 137 says, "That part of my timeline had to be told in this debut release so I could put the whole thing behind me once and for all, at least try, and what better place to tell it than where it will matter the most".
