Roger Bellon was born in Neuilly sur Seine, France. He began studying piano at the age of eight. He attended The Berklee College of Music, Boston, where he received his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Composition, and post graduate studies in composition and conducting at The École Normale de Musique, Paris.
He received numerous commissions from the French Government for his chamber as well as symphonic and choral compositions. His first published composition, "Blackout", a musical work for piano was commissioned by The École Normale de Musique for their yearly piano competition. Published by legendary French music publisher Max Eschig, it has been performed and recorded extensively.
His Ballet "Signé Modigliani", was premiered at CarlArts (California Institute for the Arts). "Highlander: A Celtic Opera", an opera co-composed with Harlan Collins, was released on CD and is currently in discussions regarding the staging.
Roger Bellon's music can be heard on a variety of movie and television soundtracks throughout the world. He composed the music to 120 episodes of the highly successful cult series "Highlander-The Series", (Saturn Awards: Nominated, Best DVD TV Programming Release (Season One) and Best Genre Syndicated TV Series, Gemini Awards: Nominated, Best Dramatic Series) as well as the acclaimed CBS six hour mini-series based on Mario Puzo's best selling book, "The Last Don", (Emmy Nomination: Outstanding Miniseries) and its four hour sequel, "The Last Don, Part 2".
Other television movies include "Frankenstein", a four hour mini-series for Hallmark, starring Donald Sutherland and William Hurt, which was recorded in Sophia, Bulgaria with the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Mr. Bellon. "Mysterious Island", (Saturn Awards: Nominated, Best Television Presentation) a four hour mini-series, also for Hallmark, starring Patrick Stewart and Kyle MacLachlan. "The Assassination File", co-composed with ex "Police", drummer Stewart Copeland, a 1987 version of "Frankenstein", for which Roger received an Emmy Nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Musical Composition and Direction and the Warner Brothers television series, "The New Adventures of Robin Hood", recorded in Vilnius, Lithuania with the Lithuanian Symphony Orchestra and Choir also conducted by Mr. Bellon.
Bellon's feature film credits include: "Break A Leg", starring Jennifer Beals, Eric McCormick, Molly Parker, Eric Roberts, Sandra Oh, John Cassini, JJ Johnson and Dany Nucci. "The Sheik", the 1921 silent movie classic starring Rudolph Valentino, commissioned in honor of Paramount Studio's 75th anniversary. The score was commissioned by the "Z" Channel's Jerry Harvey in honor of Paramount's seventy-fifth anniversary.
"Darkness at High Noon: The Carl Foreman Documents", a feature documentary for award winning Canadian writer/director Lionel Chetwynd.
"The Unholy", a classic horror movie with a stellar cast, was legendary actor, Trevor Howard's, last movie.
"The Wishing Well", a short film by director, producer and actor Rod Maxwell has earned many awards including: (2007) Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Fest Korea - Special Presentation. "Seleted Works", also on Bellchant Records, is a collection of orchestral works recorded in Vilnius, Lithuania with the Lithuanian Symphony Orchestra and Choir, conducted by Roger. Bellon has contributed compositions to virtuoso flautist, Jim Walker's solo CD "Private Flight" which was produced by world renowned bassist Stanley Clarke. "The Best of Highlander The Series" the third CD in the series of TV soundtracks from the show was recently released on GNP: Crescendo Records.
He has scored numerous documentaries working with such notable film makers as Oscar winning editor Françoise Bonnot for Médecin Sans Frontière (Doctors Without Borders) and French rain forest activist Jean Pierre Dutielleux on "Txucaramae". A series of films about the ever depleting Brazilian Rain Forest and the tribes that inhabit them.
