Rafael DeJesus Peralta (Raphy Santos) was born in Mao Valverde, Dominican Republic on July 14. Born into a low class, but very humble family, Raphy liked music and singing in particular. He began to write poems for his mother. His parents Tércida and Rafael saw Raphy the most ambitious of their kids, as today, he is the only musician of his siblings. When Raphy was 11-year-old, his mother unbeknown to his father enrolled him in piano class with the teacher Doña Antonia Arté "Tontón", since his father did not want Raphy being in music which led him to certain differences between them.
He participated in several local voice festivals, which he acquired knowledge. Raphy liked to sing at the school where was known as the first person in the row to always sing in the national anthem. Part of the chorus of the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) and Universidad Tecnológica De Santiago (UTESA), being driven by Professor Luis Flores. His first chance to sing in public, thanks to Professor Rafael Espejo Acosta, leader of the Dominican army at that time, which took him to sing in the club for officers of Mao.
Wherever he was, he liked to sing so he eventually met the Dominican army captain at the time, Marino Concepción Jiménez, being the person who took him to meet Luis Vargas, who was his friend. Henceforth, wherever Raphy saw a group playing, he was looking for a way that put him to sing.
On the 1st of January in the year 1986, Raphy played in his first Festival in Piloto, a community in Mao with the group of Luis Vargas, whom he credits for giving him the opportunity to be a part of something big. At that point, he was the youngest of the group, and lasted approximately 8 years. Raphy is known as the pioneer of introducing the electronic battery in bachata.
Then, in Mid-1993, he became part of the group, led by Raulin Rodríguez, being participant in the production "Regresa Amor", where he only lasted about 3 months, since he was being recruited by his cousin Anthony Santos to join his group. With Anthony, Raphy acquired many experiences giving him a great opportunity to lead to his own group. Being part of the group by Anthony Santos, he recorded his first album "Con Sentimiento Y Ternura" in 1995 sponsored and supported by businessman Andrés Rodríguez (Platano Productions), record label with which he recorded his first five productions.
Raphy is also known as being the pioneer in recording tributes to the classic Bachata artists. Andrés Rodríguez is like a brother to Raphy, since he was the person who gave him the opportunity to record and produce his albums.
Apart from "Con Sentimiento Y Ternura", also recorded "Enamorado De Tí", "Mi País – El Homenaje", "No Podrás Engañarme", and "Clásicos De La Provincia".
Raphy recorded his first album under his own record label "Raya Music" and the album is titled "Otra Vez", in the year 2015. Raphy continues recording his songs now under his label, working in his new production "Humildemente Yo!" in 2019. Read more on Last.fm.
