Tom Dean (aka TD, The Devastator, Carbon Based, and TNT) is a musician, producer, and DJ, focusing primarily on Dubstep, Drum & Bass, and all Bass genres of electronic dance music, and is co-founder of CarbonBased Recordings, established in 1999.

Drawing his inspiration on everything from old school Funk, to Jungle, Drum & Bass, Downtempo, and Dub, TD taps into his skills as a bassist and producer, creating tracks that span a spectrum from atmospheric to hard hitting steppers, downtempo grooves, and smoked-out dubs. As well as his individual endeavors, TD is one third of the production trio TNT. Weighing in on bass, TD brings his styles of funk and breaks to the mix.

TD, has released tracks with producers Chickenskin, TNT, and DJ Gerald, under the CarbonBased imprint. Collaborations also include the talents of Steven Robinson, Ras Gombo, Soul Sista Shakti, and Inga Lill. TD’s productions and dubplates have received support from DJ’s on both coasts of the US and both sides of the Atlantic.

Since 2009 TD has been involved in Florida’s fast growing Dubstep scene, playing at some of Tampa’s finest Dubstep nights and most epic after-parties. Sharing the lineup with many of the area’s best talent, including: Speedy (Blaqart), Screwface, Daveaux, Muggles, Joint Custody, Dangerous Fridays, Rat Soap Studio, Rick Furious, Polish Pat, Nerd Rage!, Random J, CLRH2O, Kano, and Noah D. Behind the decks, TD is known for destroying dance floors with his styles of hard, filthy Dubstep, Rasta infused dubs, speaker shaking basslines, and floor crushing Drumstep; has earned him the designation of “The Devastator” among his crew and locals.
