By the beginning of 2008, Birmingham band Shocked Elevator Family had decided to take a break once they had completed work on their album ‘the Luge vol.1’. Bryn Bowen wanted to move back to Norway and bassist David Morris’s band Gentle Friendly was beginning to make waves in London. During the making of ‘the Luge...’, Bryn had started recording with his brother Lloyd Bowen under the name Hell Brown Kids and S.E.F guitarist Ralph Morton under various names including Auctioneers, Josh Logan and Bodies of Men.

Following Bryn’s move to Norway in the summer of 2008, Lloyd and Ralph also began collaborating on songs. At this point with so much overlap it seemed to make sense to merge the three projects and Bryn Bowen & The Shalfonts was born (‘Bryn Bowen & the Shalfonts’ was a name S.E.F would play shows under if one of them couldn’t make it that night.) Their debut 'Sturt Logic' was released as a download only album in early 2009.

Before the year was out Catherine Martin had joined the band on guitar. As just "The Shalfonts" 2010 saw the release of the 'Midtown to Rural Turbine’ single and a full length album 'Mjuk Nation'. Both were released on Giant Manilow Records. 'Mjuk Nation' features appearances from Gentle Friendly's David Morris and Sunset Cinema's Greg Bird. Greg Bird also joined the band on bass for their first live shows along with former S.E.F drummer Andrew Hancock.

Quick off the mark in 2011 the band released a five track E.P 'Brain' in January. Following the success of the live shows they decided to record album three with the full live band and the recording/producing help of Greg Bird. The as yet untitled third album is due out on Giant Manilow Records in mid 2013. An EP 'The Shalfonts: At Moth Lit' preceded it on January 29th. Read more on Last.fm.
