I Am the World Lyrics

I am the world, I'm the boys and the girls
I'm the dads on the grind, paying rent, punching time
I'm the guy on TV, saying,? Jesus is near?
I'm the man in the cell, I'm his courage and fear

I'm the trust that you give and the honor you lose
I'm the future you change every moment you choose

I'm the now and the never when you got no more time
I'm the dream that is rising in the back of your mind
I'm the sickness and cure, I'm polluted and pure
Baby, I am the world and I'm yours

I'm the joy in the air at the birth of your child
And the pressure to win so your father will smile
I am the King, I'm the Czar, I'm the Pope
I'm your finest good deeds and your worst dirty jokes

I'm the air that you breathe when you got no more steam
I'm the people you trust, I'm the people who leave

I'm the now and the never when you got no more time
I'm the dream that is rising in the back of your mind
I'm the sickness and cure, I'm polluted and pure
Baby, I am the world and I'm yours

I am the sun and the darkest of nights
I am choice to the left, I am death to the right
I'm the dull of the blues and the sting of the bruise
I am with you for good, I'm the world, I'm the rules

I'm the now and the never when you got no more time
I'm the dream that is rising in the back of your mind
I'm the sickness and cure, I'm polluted and pure
Baby, I am the world and I'm yours

I am the world, I am the world
I am the world, I am the world

The Elms were an American Rock And Roll band from Seymour, Indiana active from 2000-2010 under Sparrow/EMI Records and later Universal Records South. They were known for their breed of midwestern, rootsy rock, with the essence of the music of the 60's and 70's.

Musically, the band has been compared by critics to The Black Crowes, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Cream for their blues-tinged, instrumentally sparse arrangements. Lyrically, The Elms continue to gravitate towards writing songs revolving around observations of their small-town upbringing and the struggles facing many middle-Americans.

The Elms were known for their raucous, energetic live performances, and were for some time considered by many to be one of the top new live rock bands in America. The band's U.S. touring in 2006-2008 saw them perform with Goo Goo Dolls, Cracker, Shooter Jennings, Buddy Guy, Los Lonely Boys, Will Hoge, Gin Blossoms, and rock legend Peter Frampton among others.

On June 1, 2010, the band announced via their website that they were amicably parting ways after ten years together. They simultaneously released a digital-only boxed set of unreleased and live material called "STOPPIN' ON A DIME" to clear out the vaults and give fans a parting gift.
