Lumine was raised in Borneo by a family of proboscis monkeys. Since the proboscis do not keep accurate calendars, there is no way he can be sure how old he is, but he does know that he is "old enough to rock". He is frequently noted for his use of endemic Bornean birds on his background vocals.

In 2003 he met acclaimed Swedish zoologist/Bad-ass M.C. Christoffer Lunnnddsttrrom and returned to Scandinavia with him to record his first full length, "The Perks of Being a Mountain Tree-Shrew", which was met with critical acclaim in Greenland and Madagascar.

Joseph plans to release his sophmore album "Protest Songs: Ur Doin' it Wrong" sometime in 2008, provided he can resolve his passport and visa issues and get back into Sweden. In the meantime, he's been in the sewers of Manhattan recording an EP under his rap pseudonym "Joe Smo" with acclaimed producer/DJ/Sensei MixMaster Splinter. Read more on Last.fm.
