[1] Yung C (aka Yung Cupid) Born Henry James Colin Powell Smith, on March 6th 1991, in Ottawa, grew up not knowing the definition of Peace and happiness. A troubled home couldn't define the environment that surrounded this boy. Syringes in the playground and in the streets and yet he still came out with his head held high. At the age of 2, he went through the tragic divorce of his parents. It prolonged for 14 years before the courts ruled in favor of his mother. Mean while, His trouble with racism had just started. While going through elementary school, Henry was the the outcast of his schools. The white children spat on him and beat him down because he was different. Teachers on the yard said they didn't notice this going on. "Fighting was my past time in grade school. It was like a death match every day, i had to fight to survive". Every week was another fight and eventually , Henry learned it wasn't about fighting, it was about your voice being heard above others. By the time He learned that henry had transfered from 6 different schools and during that process started writing poetry and found himself people he could call friends. At the time Henry was in middle school and wanted to just focus on his studies but never could he escape his past of violence or "flo-etry" as he would call it. in 2005 Henry released his first mixtape Pain to Glory : Chapter One: the Beginning. For him it was an accomplishment and found that he wanted to tell the world as he sees it like a story book. Saddly in April of 2006 Henry's close friend Sontarim died in a gang related act. "If i could go back and change one thing in my life... It wouldnt have been Sonny that died". from that tragedy came a soul taht touch the hearts of many. In 2007, he released he follow up mixtape Chapter two: Heartfelt. In this mixtape he includes the smash hit 4 page letter to a dear friend dedicated to his friend Sonny aswell and his part two to his hit "Who i Be", "where i Standing".
"Hell wasn't always hot. It got cold after a couple months then hot again. But paradise to one may not be for the other. " said Yung C at an interview with the Barrhaven inquirer. " My Paradise has yet to come. I once experienced happiness ands yet i lost it in a instant so now im just wanting for my paradise. Why laugh now and have to cry later when i can cry now and laugh and enjoy later."
