The Good Son is a folknoise project from the Netherlands. The core member of the band is Bart de Kroon. With an array of instruments: guitars, piano, musical saw, banoneon, synths, drums and his shaky sandpaper voice he creates music that ranges from quiet songs to raunchy drones. Still, all compositions have in common that they combine a desolate sadness with a delicate melancholy. For some listeners this combination might accumulate to a fever dream, but never without the knowledge that there’s always a friend next to your bed who will take care of you, wipe your head, feed you soup.
Last few years De Kroon has been quite busy on the musical front: He is or has been a part of the Great Lake Swimmers, We vs. Death, Pien Feith and the Masters of the Unisex, Mercy Giants and The HG Syndrome. He shared stages with bands like A Silver mt. Zion, The Cure, Jeniferever, Joan as Policewoman, Roommate and Explosions in the Sky. Not only did he play many shows in the Netherlands, he also toured in other countries; Canada, Russia, Poland, United Kingdom and France amongst others. After his split-up with We vs. Death in 2006 De Kroon shifted his focus on The Good Son.
The release of The Good Son’s debut on Badmintone Records is scheduled for late August 2007. The record will be entitled ‘A Brilliant Window Niche’ and it is speculated that the record will contain more songs than will fit on one disc. On this effort he will be collaborating with Melvin Wevers (…And the Bloody Hand, Vehicle), Demi Mazurka (Mercy Giants), Wouter Bosker (Ex-Con, Boy Ler), Menno Bakker (Bunt Studio) and Jeremiah Day.
