Independence Lyrics

Patient anticipation up till' now I've been hurry up
and waitin'
At a bus stop in independence lickin' an ice cream cone
I've been kickin' I've been schemin. This is as close
As I've ever been to leavin
Five blocks away a stone'sthrow from home.
But I'm as good as gone.

(Chorus)I gotta get gone, gone, gone.
Shootin' like a gun, a gun, a gun.
Skippin like a stone, stone, stone
Far as I can run to where freedom is free.
There's a road like a long grey ribbon far as I can
see.
And it's pullin independence outta me.

Emancipation, paper chasin' leavin' with question marks
And momma's blessing
Put her picture in my pocket 'long with her rosary
Some say I'm crazy a little loco
And most of my friends will live and die in this zip code
It might be for me but until I go
How am I supposed to know

Chorus)I gotta get gone, gone, gone.
Shootin' like a gun, a gun, a gun.
Skippin like a stone, stone, stone
Far as I can run to where freedom is free.
There's a road like a long grey ribbon far as I can
see.
And it's pullin independence outta me.
I'm bustin outta independence, independence bustin'
outta me(X2)

Chorus)I gotta get gone, gone, gone.
Shootin' like a gun, a gun, a gun.
Skippin like a stone, stone, stone
Far as I can run to where freedom is free.
There's a road like a long grey ribbon far as I can
see.
And it's pullin independence outta me.

The Band Perry is an American country music band composed of Kimberly Perry (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, piano) and her two brothers: Reid Perry (bass guitar, background vocals) and Neil Perry (mandolin, drums, accordion, background vocals). They were born in Jackson,Mississippi and moved to Mobile,AL as early teens;eventually moving to Greeneville , Tenn. The trio owes its unique sound to its parents. "Most dads would be rocking their kids to sleep singing 'Rock-a-bye Baby,' " Kimberly says. "Our dad was singing us Rolling Stones songs, and our mom loves country. They definitely cross-pollinated our musical palette.." The trio teamed with Garth Brooks' manager, Bob Doyle, in 2008 and a year later it signed with Republic Nashville.
The band released its debut single "Hip to My Heart" in 2009 and their second single; "If I Die Young", was released June 7, 2010. It peaked at #19 on the Hot 100, making it their biggest hit.
