Able to move comfortably between very different, sometimes extreme, musical languages, Machnai organically weaves sound colors into rich personal interpretations. Drawn to the peculiar, non-conventional (modal) harmonies with influences from classical and contemporary composers-- through Sephardic and Middle Eastern historic and sacred sounds-- to British Folk and orchestral progressive rock from the 70's (Pink Floyd, Queen, Kate Bush, Led Zeppelin) and contemporary lyrical songwriters ( Rufus Wainwright, Jeff Buckley, Fiona Apple) -- Machnai composes and performs music seeking depth, echoing emotions and startling with elements of surprise.
