It began a number of years ago when an oboist and two guitarists decided to compose and perform their own music. They wanted their sound to be an alternative to other acoustic ensembles by exploring many musical styles yet maintaining an inspired and distinct voice; thus was the inception of
ONE ALTERNATIVE.

The members of ONE ALTERNATIVE are Jill Haley on oboe/English horn plus two guitarists, Mark Oppenlander and David Bozenhard. Rather than having its music labeled by others, One Alternative describes its music as an "acoustic fusion”. Acoustic fusion is a blending of the compositional form found in classical music with improvisational elements found in jazz and rock. The mixture of these elements forms a driven, ever-changing and enjoyable listening experience.

2014 marks the 31 year anniversary of One Alternative! Not many music groups can claim this feat while continuing to stay creatively inspired. In May 2013 the quintet played a celebratory date at the World Cafe in Philadelphia. In the Autumn of 2013 the group slimmed down to a quartet with Mark Oppenlander on guitar, Jill Haley on oboe & English horn, Rob Swanson on bass and Tony Deangelis on drums.
