Keepsake Lyrics

You always hated the way I live
You never wanted the things I had to give
But still there's something that keeps you holding on
Leavin' me is something only you can do
I'll never be the one to say we're through
But if you play the game
I'm gonna play the fool

Your holding on to me like a keepsake
Holding on to me like a keepsake
Why won't you give my heart a break
And just let me go
Whoa whoa-oowhoa
Oh oh
Baby let me go

You keep my love in a little box
I tried to pick the lock
But you keep my hidin' out behind your closet door
Tell me why you got to treat me
So unkind you keep me
Out of sight and out of your mind
Come on and open me up
I can't take it no more

Your holding on to me like a keepsake
Holding on to me like a keepsake
Why won't you give my heart a break
And just let me go
Yeah yeah-eahh
Oh oh
Baby let me go

When you try to touch my soul
Your fingertips are always cold
Am I just your souvenir
You buried me like treasure
Then forgot you left me here

Holding on to me like a keepsake
Holding on to me like a keepsake
Why won't you give my heart a break
And just let me go

Holding on to me like a keepsake
Maybe you love me but it's too late
Why won't you give my heart a break
And just let me go
Whoa whoa-oaahh

Oh oh
Baby let me go

Oh oh
Let me go

Grace Potter & the Nocturnals is an American rock band from Vermont. Formed in 2002 in Waitsfield by drummer Matt Burr, guitarist Scott Tournet, and singer Grace Potter, they began their career as an indie band, self-producing their albums and touring extensively in the jam bands and music festivals circuit, playing as many as 200 gigs in a year. In 2005 they signed for Hollywood Records and have subsequently released albums encompassing rock sub-genres such as blues rock, folk rock, hard rock, and alternative rock. Their third, self-titled album (released in 2010) was a major commercial success, topping the iTunes charts and receiving international attention.

Grace Potter whose dynamic vocal ability has drawn comparisons to legends Bonnie Raitt, Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin and more recently Sheryl Crow and Joan Osborne. Her unique style behind the Hammond B-3 and piano is also gaining widespread recognition. The original lineup included Scott Tournet (guitar/slide guitar), Matthew Burr (drums/percussion), and Bryan Dondero (upright/electric bass). After Dondero parted ways with the Nocturnals in March 2009, they brought in Catherine Popper (bass) and also added Benny Yurco (rhythm guitar).

They have toured with national acts such as Taj Mahal, Trey Anastasio, Dave Matthews Band, The Black Crowes, Derek Trucks, Gov't Mule and Robert Cray. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
