Señor Kino was a five piece lo-fi surf punk band from Sonora, Mexico. It was formed in 2014 including three members, Karl, Sofía, and Carolina. They chose the name Señor Kino in reference to a beach in Sonora, Bahía de Kino, as they were aiming for surf punk.

Two years after forming they released their first ep, para bailar mientras lloras. The band decided that they’d want more members to drive their success. Ramsi, a new friend of Carolina’s joined the band.

The bands first LP, Limonada Rosa was released in 2017. It became popular within the indie scene in Mexico. Surprisingly this success was achieved only through the internet, without radio or television plays.

This wave of success drove the band to work harder on their project. their second full length work, Colores, was released just one year following Limonada Rosa.

They would play locally within Mexico and The United States, gaining popularity. Around this time their final album, Aurora Boreal was released. It was a hit and their popularity continued to grow.

The band was to become the face of indie music in Mexico. However, they were not free of controversy.
Young women began to step up and accuse Karl Neudert of committing sexual crimes against them. Karl firmly denied these claims. The band began to withdraw themselves from any relationship with Karl outside of strictly performing. Fans however, did not agree with this and demanded that light be shed on the situation. The band was to play at CMDX on May 1st. They cancelled their show as they had received death threats. After a week of silence, Carolina had announced the separation of the band. Each member went a different direction. Most notably, Carolina has focused her efforts on her own project, Margaritas Podridas. Read more on Last.fm.
