Co-Op

Meeting in the early-to-mid-2000's in Toronto, the partners-in-crime behind Co-Op couldn't have come from more different schools. With an expansive record collection and experience as a techno, house, and minimal DJ in the city, Orejuana's deep knowledge of those genres met Karim's guitar, oud, and synthesizer and his background in Middle Eastern music, sound experimentation, and music theory.

With a fluid cast of accompanying musicians and DJs, Co-Op works both within and without the usual DJ/Live PA paradigm that largely defines performance of electronic dance-oriented music, adding textures and gently reworking existing tracks to entire live productions/performances with a mix of sequences and live instrumentation. The sounds move between a bright, intelligent funk, deep, dubby minimal, to big (both heady and heavy) rolling mashers.
