Jesse Henderson began recording under the nom de band Jesse Konrad following the breakup of Fischer Kings, an indie folk group similar in tone and manner to Bright Eyes, Modest Mouse, and -- to a certain extent --Death Cab. Henderson’s solo project took Fischer Kings' introspective, folky sound and garnished it with ramshackle, zany orchestral touches that nodded to Shoe-gazing and the drifty optimism of the Flaming Lips. Henderson moved to Los Angeles the spring following Fischer Kings demise, setting up camp in his brothers garage for three months. After the need for a slower pace, he retracted to his hometown; Tucson, Arizona, where he connected with his producer Robbie Williamson (BRYDES) at Saint Cecelia Studios (started by Steven Lee Tracey from the grandiose alt-rock band The Myriad). This was a hugely generative period for Konrad; writing and recording songs in 12-hour bursts, he found himself with a six-song debut EP album by Christmas 2015. He dubbed the project Jesse Konrad (his middle name), and the disc, Sophrosyne, was released independently in early 2016. His first single, “Million Miles” got local radio play while Emmy Flower’s from NoFilter.comargued, “In “Sophrosyne,” Konrad speaks from the soul with lyrics that are personal yet vaguely familiar. The songs all stand on their own, yet collectively retain a cohesive feel that delicately toes the line between traditional folk praxis and ethereal dreaminess.”. In February 2016, Jesse Konrad played Jam In The Van, while looking forward to local tours, and another album on his horizon, which is no longer a million miles away. Read more on Last.fm.
