J.P. Mortier was born in Albi, southern France and lived in Tunisia before his family relocated in Montreal.
It goes to follow that he would travel the world, busking in Japan, fighting shoe salesmen on the Trans-Siberian, catching iguanas in a Mexican bus and roding camels in the Australian outback..... Some of these events are portrayed in his songs including those found on his new CD: Backpacker.

Very much influenced by the classic rock of Pink Floyd, Bowie, Zeppelin and the alt. rock of the 90's from Radiohead and the like, JP likes to mix it up between atmospheric soundscapes and rocking tunes. Lyrically, there is a bit of a Leonard Cohen-Tom Waits vibe especially with his low bassy voice.
