Azure Hiptronics is a funk/jazz/pop group based in The Netherlands, currently featuring musicians from The Netherlands (guitarist Rogier Schneemann), Surinam (drummer Satindra Kalpoe) and Italy (basisst Luciano Poli and keyboardist Federico Solazzo). Here is their history, taken from the band's website:

The story of Azure Hiptronics starts in 2006 when a pianist and a guitar player meet at a spontaneous jam session. Immediately sensing a musical spark, they decide to collaborate. They get together with two friends, start composing and gigging, and call the band Azure.

After their first big concert at The Hague Jazz, they decide to work towards a recording. In June 2008 the quartet records their debut album When She Smiles, containing nine original pieces inspired by love. The self-released album gains wide critical acclaim in both the U.S. and the Netherlands. Azure's compositions, eclecticism and unique sound are given a lot of praise.

They play some major Dutch summer festivals, followed by the first tour abroad: for three weeks they play across South America, receiving a warm welcome. Two years later the band is nominated as finalist for the 'Get Your Jazz On Stage' competition, culminating in a final concert at Amsterdam's pop-temple Paradiso, for which they team up with star trumpeter Rik Mol and rap-outfit L4.

Producer and synthesizer wizard Federico Solazzo replaces the original composer/pianist, who relocates to Paris, and trumpeter Mol continues to work with Azure. Yet again a musical spark is felt and Azure dedicate themselves to composing and rehearsing new material. A brand new second album called Hiptronics was released on 7 July 2014. It presents Azure's newfound groovy, eclectic and electric sound, and features Rik Mol NYC-based songwriter/vocalist Benjamin Rhodes and rapper DNA (Surinam).

On the wings of their second, highly acclaimed album, Azure Hiptronics (as they were now named) embarked on a series of energetic and captivating live concerts, in The Netherlands and Italy from early 2015. The coming live shows tell a story of estrangement and homecoming through the groove-laden, eclectic and intense music from their concept album Hiptronics. Rogier, Federico, Luciano and David bring the audience into Hiptronics' world of surrealistic adventure, performing while immersed in colourful and sometimes trippy visual projections by French artist Fabien Marcadet.

In March 2016, Azure Hiptronics perform live on SXSW in Austin, Texas, after spending a week in the bustling festival life. The band members end up having a strange encounter. They spot a giant, blob-like monster hanging from a tall building in downtown Austin, which spies on the people walking the streets below. After finding out that the creature can actually sing, they decide to name it Ignacio.

They return to the Netherlands in complete awe and start out working on their third album. All of their Texan experiences find their way into the new music, which they record in a relaxed high-end studio in Haarlem. They dedicate the album to the singing monster, naming it Ignacio. The album was released in November 2016. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
