Red Robot is a name that's bound to be on the lips and in the collective psyche of the North State underground. Their approach is unique in their tight musicality coupled with intensely personal lyrics, resulting in an undeniably forceful dynamic not far removed from Drive Like Jehu's sound. Take songs that build off the Red Medicine-era Fugazi formula ("The Holy Moment"), replete with agile bass work and a roiling guitar squall, and you've got something good. Combine that with the wistfulness of vintage Superchunk ("123") and you've got a winning formula, led by the sturdy, brisk percussion that anchors the raw, emotive yelp of the singer.
