León Rubén Larregui Marín (born December 1, 1973, in Cuernavaca) is a Mexican singer, songwriter, and producer, best known as the lead vocalist of the Mexican band Zoé.
As a solo artist, he has recorded three albums: in 2012, he released his album "Solstis," and four years later, in 2016, he released the album "Voluma." A year after releasing his album "Voluma," he would reunite with the band Zoé to create the album "Aztlán" and release it in 2018. Subsequently, in 2021, Zoé released their most recent album, "Sonidos de Karmática Resonancia."
In 2023, "Prismarama," León's latest solo album, was released. A few days after the release of "Prismarama," Larregui began the album's tour of the United States throughout the month of May, and then continued through Mexico, Colombia, and Ecuador.
Childhood
León Larregui was the first child of Rubén Larregui del Toro, born on January 11, 1943, and who passed away in 2008 at the age of 65, and María Jeannina Marín Tomassi, born on March 20, 1950, and who passed away on March 8, 2014, at the age of 64. Due to his father's work, the family was forced to change their residence several times. León Larregui spent his early years in Mexico City, later in Torreón, then attended high school in Cuernavaca, and subsequently returned to Mexico City to study at the university. From the time he returned to Cuernavaca, he met Sergio Acosta, a musician born in Torreón, with whom he would later partner to form what would become the band they currently make up.
He began studying Fine Arts at the National School of Painting, Sculpture, and Engraving "La Esmeralda." At that time, he worked as a graphic animator, in addition to being involved in the art of many films during that period. He appeared in the video for the song "Se quiere, se mata" by Colombian singer Shakira, playing the character of Braulio.
Zoé
On November 28, 1997, León Larregui, along with Sergio Acosta, Jesús Báez, and Ángel Mosqueda, formed the psychedelic rock band Zoé. The lyrics of their songs primarily speak about the spiritual search, making references to the universe (he himself has explained that as a child he wanted to be an astronomer) and science fiction in a metaphorical way, a style that has been difficult for some of the audience to understand. He also writes about stories he invents himself, anecdotes, films, things he reads or hears.
In December 2011, he said he would take a short break from Zoé but planned to resume work on the band's next album in the middle of the same year, with the aim of releasing it in 2013.
After twenty years in the band, in 2012, he decided to launch a solo career, but he himself noted that the band would not break up and that his solo career would be completely different from what he does in Zoé, so as not to create competition with his band. He also mentioned that he was about to release a solo album for the summer of 2012. On July 10, the first single, "Como tú," was released on the radio. Read more on Last.fm.
