and the whole world seemed to fade away
until I heard my mother say:

"Son are you ok? Do you wanna pray?"
and that became the hour I first believed
and next thing you know
(Im high and flying)
well next thing you know
(My heart is in you hands)
and next thing you know
(There's no denyin')
and next thing you know
(I'm a brand new man)
Well I wish I could say I always stayed right there
and I did until my freshman year
But the world was pulling me a long way from thirteen
and you were callin' but I didn't hear
still I knew there was somethin' more
so one day my knees hit the dorm room for
I said: "If Your there, and if You really care, come and talk to me like I was thirteen."
and next thing you know
(I'm high and flyin')
the next thing you know
(My heart is in Your hands)
oh, next thing you know
(There's no denyin')
uh, next thing you know
(I'm a brand new man)
(Ooh-ooh-ooh)

Everybody say:
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la la la
(Ooh-ooh-ooh)
I got a picture in my head today
of how heaven might look someday
I see the people there
so I pull up a chair
and their stories they blow me away
Cus' I can see it on every face
the evidence of grace
and as I listen it occurs to me
everybody's got their own thirteen
So what's your story?
About His glory?
You gotta find your place
in the history of grace
Yeah, what's your story?
About His glory?
C'mon find your place
Next thing you know, yeah
(I'm high and flyin')
Next thing you know
(My heart is in your hands)
Next thing you know
(There's no denyin')
uh, well next thing you know
(I'm a brand new man)
Next thing you know, yeah
(I'm high and flyin')
Next thing you know, yeah,
(My heart is in your hands)
Next thing you know (Ooh-ooh-ooh)
(There's no denyin')
Yeah, Next thing you know
(I'm a brand new man)
(Ooh-ooh-ooh)
Sing: La la la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la la la

Next Thing You Know Lyrics

Tell me when

I Remember when I was thirteen
I Saw a picture on my TV screen
The Reverand Billy Grahm
and the people singing "Just as I am"
and it felt like you were talking to me
and the whole world seemed to fade away
until I heard my mother say:

"Son are you ok? Do you wanna pray?"
and that became the hour I first believed
and next thing you know
(Im high and flying)
well next thing you know
(My heart is in you hands)
and next thing you know
(There's no denyin')
and next thing you know
(I'm a brand new man)
Well I wish I could say I always stayed right there
and I did until my freshman year
But the world was pulling me a long way from thirteen
and you were callin' but I didn't hear
still I knew there was somethin' more
so one day my knees hit the dorm room for
I said: "If Your there, and if You really care, come and talk to me like I was thirteen."
and next thing you know
(I'm high and flyin')
the next thing you know
(My heart is in Your hands)
oh, next thing you know
(There's no denyin')
uh, next thing you know
(I'm a brand new man)
(Ooh-ooh-ooh)

Everybody say:
La la la la la la
La la la la la la
La la la la la la la
(Ooh-ooh-ooh)

Matthew West is a Christian singer who was raised in a suburb of Chicago, IL., where he discovered music at an early age. The son of a minister, he grew up in the front pew listening to his mom harmonize and following her lead. By the time he reached high school, Matthew remained involved in music and received a scholarship to study music at Millikin University in Illinois.

It was during his first year of college, that Matthew began playing guitar and writing songs. By Matthew's senior year, he was playing at every venue imaginable, from Fraternity houses to churches, and youth groups.

He signed an exclusive songwriting deal only a week after graduating and making the move to Nashville. His songs have been recorded by various artists including Rachel Lampa's most recent single, "Savior Song," which was Matthew's first top-5 song as a writer. Some other highlights were having songs placed on the platinum selling WoW 2002 project and also having his song, "Heart of Every Man recorded for the World Youth Day 2000 official soundtrack.

Matthew continued pursuing his dream of singing his own songs. Matthew had the opportunity to travel to universities across the country, and quickly began building up a steady following. With the help of Word Music and Extreme Writers Group, Matthew recorded an independent CD called, "Sellout," which caught the attention of Universal South Records.

Since signing with Universal South, He has released several albums, starting with "Happy" in 2003, "History" in 2005, and "Something to Say" in 2007; along with the re-release of Sellout in 2006. The Forgiveness Songfacts reports that West's fifth album, "Into the Light," is scheduled to be released on September 25, 2012.
