While most soul searchers head for warmer climes, this Portuguese singer-songwriter left the sunny dunes of coastal Lisbon to brave the chill of Finland’s sparse but inspiring beauty. As part of this on-going creative quest, restless soul and cultural traveller Joao Esteves, or Hello Atlantic, has cooked up a smouldering stew of folk songs that chronicle his chance encounters, often honed by busking in strangers’ hallways. From sand and snow to everywhere in between, Joao’s voice captures departure and nostalgia in a one-man culture clash come alive, occasionally augmented by friends made along the road.
