Julian Shore, also performing as Alfons Daiminger, is a pianist and composer hailing from Narragansett, Rhode Island and is now based in New York. He has released 11 singles as Alfons Daiminger, while his six albums are released under his real name.

Shore grew up listening to his father playing Bach on his home piano and would often sing along as a toddler. After starting piano lessons at a young age he began studies with famed educator Hal Crook as a teenager. Shortly thereafter he was awarded a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music. During his time there, under the mentorship of Danilo Perez, he performed in the Panama Jazz Festival, learning from Wayne Shorter, Brian Blade, John Patitucci while there.

He moved to New York shortly after graduating, and soon had his first serious performing experience with singer Gretchen Parlato- touring the US and abroad with her band in 2010 including the Stockholm Jazz Festival.

His debut album as Julian Shore “Filaments” which features Kurt Rosenwinkel, Noah Preminger, Tommy Crane, Phil Donkin, and others was released to critical acclaim in 2012. The second album as Julian Shore, “Which Way Now?” was released in early 2016 and features Gilad Hekselman, Dayna Stephens, Aidan Carroll, Colin Stranahan and a slew of guests and configurations.

Since then he has become one of the most in-demand pianists in New York, appearing as both leader and sideman at venues like Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, The Blue Note, and jazz festivals around the globe. He has had the opportunity to perform, tour and record with musicians such as Theo Bleckmann, Gretchen Parlato, Ferenc Nemeth, Gilad Hekselman, Don Braden, Romero Lubambo, Noah Preminger, Matt Wilson, Ben Monder, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Kendrick Scott, Mark Giuliana among many others.

He has performed domestically and abroad with artists as varied as John Patitucci, Gretchen Parlato, George Garzone, Theo Bleckman, Chico Pinheiro, Brian Blade, Chris Speed, Sara Gazarek, Caroline Davis, Noah Preminger, Dave Stryker, Don Braden, säje, among many others. He’s appeared at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Blue Note, Jazz at Lincoln Center and major venues and festivals across Europe, Asia and South America.

Shore is known for his "deep maturity as a composer and bandleader" (DownBeat), and his work as both a versatile sideman, and experienced bandleader has JazzTimes calling him one of the “leaders of the young jazz piano scene.” Bandcamp glows “his melodies are fueled by a powerful blend of contemplation and exploration. It’s just as easy to immerse yourself in any single moment as it is to be swept away by the entire epic journey.”

As an educator, Shore remains active in a variety of settings. He was an artistic consultant for Herbie Hancock’s Master Class for masterclass.com, and transcribed and notated hundreds of pages of Herbie’s piano performance for the course. He teaches privately at the New School, through the New York Jazz Academy, and has presented workshops and masterclasses at universities and performance venues across the globe. Read more on Last.fm.
