Camino 84 plays sensitive, and sometimes, smartass sophisticated pop—like a Steely Dan for millennials. “Maybe if Steely Dan were worse,” the producer/songwriter born Ryan Lucht counters. Like the Dan, Camino 84 (the band) circle pop and rock from decidedly un rock and pop sources, such as jazz and disco. In addition, the two artists share an intriguing juxtaposition between the groovy quality of its music and the serious, and sometimes, playfully serious nature of its lyrics.

“I’m really trying to convey both an incredibly earnest desire to grow and love, and an incredibly self-aware cynicism; which seems to be an insane and seemingly contradictory mix that all millennials have totally nailed,” he shares.

Previously, Camino 84 has released a full length album (New Mutant Disco) and a slew of EPs, remixes, and DJ-oriented side projects. For the efforts, Lucht has racked up 1M+ Spotify streams, partnered with the American Repertory Theater for a theatrical production, and received repeated nods (but never a win, he gleefully notes) from the Boston Music Awards.

But while Ryan Lucht has long inhabited the Camino 84 moniker as “a man and his laptop”, he gradually started convening talented buddies to bring his imaginative songs to life for live performances. Making it official for this edition of Camino 84, Ryan captures the vibrancy of the live-band presentation by bravely stepping from behind his computer to front an actual band. Read more on Last.fm.
