Purnima's introduction to Agra-Atrauli Gharana was chiefly
dictated by her distinguished father's royal connection and
intense love for Indian Classical music. It was during his
tenure as HOD of economics at Baroda college under the
Maharaja's patronage, Professor Dwarka Nath Ghosh was one
of regular distinguished visitor to Maharaja Sayaji Rao Gaekwad's court and feasting on the musical extravaganza with a formidable array of luminaries of Indian music creating a musical magic that seldom one can hear. Dwarka Nath developed a distinct liking for Agra Gharana and soon became an admirer of Ustad Faiyyaz Khan, one of the greatest luminaries of the Gharana.
After her marriage to eminent barrister Mr.Prabir Sen, Purnima resumed her classical training at Calcutta under the skillful guidance of Ustad Ata Hussein khan sahab.In the later part of her career, she also received training from Ustad Sharafat Hussein Khan, who was the nephew of both Vilayat and Ata Hussein Khan. Ustad Sharafat Hussein Khan had been a major influence in Purnimas musical style for a long time till his death.
