The public was introduced to Chloé Sainte-Marie in movies. Her acting career led to her singing career. In 1989, she sang the theme song for the film Cinéma, cinema, that marked the fiftieth anniversary of the National Office of Film and the twenty-fifth anniversary of its French production section. A little later, she was in the film Vive Québec, a documentary-fiction about the history of Montréal, in which she acted and sang.
It wasn’t until the middle of the nineties that she made the plunge into the musical arena and recorded her first commercial album, L’emploi de mon temps. On the album, she mostly sang songs written by Fernando Arrabal over rather eclectic music. Her second album, Je pleure, tu pleures, dropped in 1999, was welcomed as the surprise of the year, and received no less than six nominations at the Adisq gala. In October 2002, the album Je marche à toi was released and critics once again unanimously highlighted the quality and originality of the album, which won the Félix in the Album of the year category. The following year, Chloé led an important tour in France, Switzerland, and Belgium where she won more awards. In 2005, Chloé released a new album entitled Parle-moi.
