Saint Peter Upside Down Lyrics

They caught up with Simon Peter
They hung him upside down.
They took the fisherman's ring off his finger
They hung him upside down.
We all gotta sell out somebody sometimes.
Gotta take care of ourselves right now.
Meet me in the booth in the back by the bathroom
St. Peter's hanging upside down.

Upper 20s. Seventh Avenue. Just south of the Garden.
He's usually here by noon. He gets dropped off in a Honda.
Mustang Sally's Monday morning.
I was watching out the window.
I was shaking off the evening.
I was leaning on my faith.

They caught up with Simon Peter
They hung him upside down.
Nero Augustus Caesar
And the cross under the crown
We all gotta sell out somebody sometimes
Gotta take care of ourselves right now.
Meet me in the booth in the back by the bathroom
St. Peter's hanging upside down.

Can you hear me Mother Mary?
I'm unsteady in the lobby.
Would you send someone to get me?
I'm barely hanging on like some claymation fawn
In the blue light of dawn
Now she's up in her room. She's watching Disney cartoons.
She always cries when they're kissing the prince.

They surrounded Simon Peter.
The soldiers knocked him down.
They tore the fisherman's ring from his finger.
They hung him upside down.

I cam into the city I was searching for this one specific girl
I met her in 1999 up in Windows on the World
I was desperate to make a connection.
I was from another planet. It was very far away.

They caught up with Simon Peter.
They hung him upside down.
They took the fisherman's ring off his finger.
They hung him upside down.
We all gotta sell out somebody sometimes.
Kid you gotta lay your burden down.
I'm speeding through Saturday morning.
St. Peter's hanging upside down.

They surrounded Simon Peter.
The soldiers knocked him down.
Nero Augustus Caesar
And the cross under the crown.
We all gotta sell out somebody sometimes.
Let's just keep it cool for right now.
Meet me in the booth in the back by the bathroom.
St. Peter's hanging upside down.

Craig Finn, an American singer, songwriter and guitarist, is the man behind Lifter Puller, The Brokerdealer and The Hold Steady. He was also featured on Rhymesayers rapper P.O.S.'s Safety In Speed (Heavy Metal). He released his first solo album, Clear Heart Full Eyes, on January of 2012.

Here is some background information on Clear Heart Full Eyes from the No Future Songfacts . In early 2011 Hold Steady frontman Craig Finn challenged himself to write a new song every day in his Brooklyn apartment for his first solo album. "I had written a bunch of songs that were outside of the norm for The Hold Steady, a little quieter and perhaps more narrative," he said. "I wanted to gain some experience and insight into the process of making a record by working with new people." Finn enlisted producer Mike McCarthy (Spoon) and traveled to an Austin, Texas studio far away from his New York comfort zone. He hooked up with some local musicians there, including members of Phosphorescent and White Denim and sang his vocals live, keeping takes to a minimum and completed recording in a few days. The resulting album, Clear Heart Full Eyes was released on January 24, 2012 on Vagrant Records. Read more on Last.fm.
