DIM LIT DAYLIGHT'S sound is a mix of 'indie rock' & 'alternative pop' — and although their style has evolved over the course of their travels, they aspire to bring both heart & soul to their performance as well as the passion of personal experience to their lyrics and music.

When asked what they sound like, the guys often reference their influences. Bands like 'The Cure', 'The Beatles', 'The Police' and 'Death Cab for Cutie' — just to name a few — have been a source of inspiration for the group, but they admit that they like to mix it up and are always looking to re-invent themselves with each new song.

While they endeavor to create music that's timeless, they also enjoy working with new technologies that allow them to stretch their artistic muscle — and for a two piece band, they make a very full sound.

Ask any 'Dim Lit Fan' what they're like and you'll never get the same answer twice. They have been compared to everyone from 'Jack Johnson', 'Maroon 5', 'Van Morrison' and 'Counting Crows' to 'Death Cab for Cutie', 'Damien Rice', 'The Police' and 'John Mayer'. Someone even mentioned once that their song, 'Velvet Elvis', was somewhat reminiscent of a young 'Roy Orbison'.

"Fans always want something new, and we want the opportunity to deliver something different and unexpected with each record. It's safe to re-write the same song over and over, but the real excitement is trying to find something new in your sound." says vocalist Josh Free.

DISCOGRAPHY

(1) DIM LIT DAYLIGHT (self-titled) | (c) 2005 Dim Lit Daylight /A.D. Records
In Aug. 2005, [DLD] released their 1st 'SELF TITLED' album. The 11 track album spans the range of their eclectic style, while keeping an 'acoustic feel'. From soulful tracks like, 'Shine' to 'happy pop' tracks like, 'Changing Lanes' they always look for that special something that is distinctly 'Dim Lit Daylight' in each song, and as a final 'tip-of-the-hat' to one of their influences, they included a ghost track, featuring a string quartet cover of The Cure's, 'The Love Cats'.

(2) TIME MACHINE (c) 2007 Dim Lit Daylight /A.D. Records
Shortly after their debut release they left for tour (Jan. '06) with their new album in hand. During the next eight months they wrote and recorded a 2nd album, TIME MACHINE, which was released in early 2007. On 'Time Machine', they began to stretch out and explore their more 'alternative/indie' side with songs like, 'Time Machine', 'Train' & 'Just a Dream', layered with distorted guitars and beefed up drums, & others like, 'Hi-Tops' & 'Dewdrops' with rich textures and quirky sounds which feel more like a 'college radio weekend play list'.

(3) SUN UP SUN DOWN (c) 2009 Dim Lit Daylight /A.D. Records
In December of 2009, the band released their third full length album, SUN UP SUN DOWN. The 14 track album features 'glossy pop' tracks like 'Crazy Beautiful' and 'Til I Say So', as well as haunting tracks like 'Weatherman' and 'Spyglass'. In addition, the album includes the 'time capsule' track 'Channel Surf' which is a random list of all things pop culture. On SUN UP SUN DOWN, the band has redefined their eclectic sound with a full canvas of sonic ear candy. Read more on Last.fm.
