Martin Carthy & Dave Swarbrick was a British folk duo that became one of the best-known folk duos of the 1960s. The duo comprised Martin Carthy MBE, an English folk singer and guitarist who has remained one of the most influential figures in British traditional music, inspiring contemporaries such as Bob Dylan and Paul Simon and later artists such as Richard Thompson since he emerged as a young musician in the early days of the folk revival, and Dave Swarbrick (1941-2016), an English folk musician remembered for his fiddle playing since joining the The Ian Campbell Folk Group in 1960.

In 1966 the pair teamed up and began a significant influence on the folk music scene of the time. For contractual reasons, Swarbrick was given second billing on Carthy’s first three albums, but they shared the credits on the next album, But Two Came By (1968).

For many critics, Prince Heathen from 1969 was their finest recording together.

In 2006, the duo released "Straws in the Wind". In 2007, they won the 'Best Duo' Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
