Starting around 2000 in the southern city of Kaohsiung, Fire Ex. converted to punk rock after seeing the old school Taichung band Reproduction open for Japanese pop punk girl band Softball perform at the 2002 Say Yes to Taiwan concert. Known as one of the most dedicated bands on Taiwan, Fire Ex. have recorded several demo EPs and appeared on a compilation from the skate punk label Fei Records before seeing commercial success with their first full-length Let's Go!. The album is a mix of their older skate punk classics and their newer progressive hardcore songs. The band has appeared on the international punk comp Samurai Spirits alongside Reproduction and Akiakane (featuring Moe from Softball), two of the bands that influenced them from the beginning. They have also collaborated on the soundtrack to the acclaimed indie film A Summer's Tail adding to their diverse discography. Currently members of Fire Ex have formed a ska-core group named Shy Kick Apple and are working together with other south Taiwan bands in a collective called S4RS (Search 4 Real Self) in order to promote skate boarding and indie subculture on the island.
Fire ex. has joined many of Taiwan's festivals over the years including Say Yes to Taiwan, Formoz and Spring Scream and continue to be main attractions at events around the island today. In 2003, they built some punk rock bridges crossing the straight to play a few shows in China alongside fellow Taiwan punks Semi-con and the credited Beijing band Reflector. These days, they organize shows with Shy Kicks Apple and the S4RS collective down in Kaohsiung and occasionally come up north to play The Wall with local Taipei bands.
