Kyoshi are a band from North London. Fronted by the very amazing Leanne King, a girl with rhymes so wicked she'll flip you upside down and tell you what she's found, Kyoshi's music is an upbeat mix of indie, ska and hip-hop. Pop music with attitude. It's like Tate Modern - full of weird shapes and bright colours.

The band formed in Leicester. Drummer Ben and guitarist Dan met in their school playground aged 10. Bonding over music and making mixtapes for each other naturally turned in to making music and they got together with bassist Chris while still at school. Dan's little sister Leanne insisted on joining after discovering the finer things in life on a summer trip to Amsterdam. The quartet moved to North London where they share a house, write songs and do the being in a band in London thing.

Kyoshi, in case you were wondering, is taken from a Zen word that Leanne read wrong. It means 'we are one'.

The band site as their influences the Chili Peppers, Lauryn Hill, No Doubt and Ian Brown. Says guitarist Dan: "We have a genuinely exciting and vibrant singer that half raps, half sings, proper solid and tight beats that you can dance to and really great sing a long choruses. Bass plays an important role in our songs like it does in all the great bands from the Beatles to the Chili's."

Kyoshi's debut single Bang! is a song about an endearingly clumsy boyfriend who keeps bumping into and dropping things. Bang! is produced by hip production team The Animal Farm and introduces to the world a new band with a new sound and a tune you'll be humming the minute you hear it. Bang! Read more on Last.fm.
