Jay Matsueda seamlessly integrates rock, pop and jazz to create a flurry of interwoven and complex sounds that offer new facets upon repeat listens. The intelligent lyrics flow melodically and musically over the music which includes such varied instruments as sax, trumpet, flute, bassoon, sitar, flugelhorn, ukulele, cello and violin atop standard rock instrumentation of guitars, bass and percussion. Matsueda's main influences are Sting and Jeff Buckley, but he has been told he sounds like Cat Stevens, Tracy Chapman or Tim Buckley vocally on different songs. Two fine cameo backing vocals appear on his debut CD called "Eat Your Sad." The song "Nothing Inside of Me" features Tamar Kaprelian (now an Interscope recording artist, but independent at the time of the recording), and also Quincy Coleman on track 10 called "When He Wakes Up."
