Someone to Believe Lyrics

Written by Tommy Shaw, Jack Blades, Ted Nugent

There was a time
When a man lived by his word
And the simple truth
Was not so hard to take
When his enemies
Were thousands of miles away
And he stood by
The promises he'd make
All that I ask for
All that I need
Is someone that I can believe
Yeah
Just like the air
That we breathe in a single day
To a drowning man
How much do you think he'd pay
All that I ask for
All that I need
Is someone that I can believe
When I listen to the things you try to say
Any ordinary man would fade away
But if you want I'm ready to receive
I know that I can believe
Every word you say
And the love you give away
Goes straight to my heart
And everything you do
And how you follow through
Can keep us together
Or tear us apart
When I listen to the things you try to say
Any ordinary man would fade away
But if you want I'm ready to receive
Well I would not have it any other way
I know that I
I know that I
I know that I can believe
Yeah
And I am listening
To every word you say

Damn Yankees was an American hard rock supergroup, well known for the single High Enough, formed in 1985, consisting of Jack Blades (Night Ranger), Tommy Shaw (Styx), Ted Nugent and drummer Michael Cartellone. Presumably inspired by the musical of the same name, Nugent once also explained that he coined the name because whenever someone asked him how he and Tommy Shaw would sound playing together, he would always reply by saying they would sound like "a bunch of damn Yankees." With Tommy Shaw from Alabama, Jack Blades from California, Mike Cartellone from New York, and Ted Nugent from Michigan, it did seem as if the band represented all four corners of the nation.
