Sitting in the fittingly named "computer room" of his mom's house in the Boston suburb of Newton, Massachusetts, a young aspiring hip-hop and electronic music producer clicks his mouse over and over again on the Acid Pro production software. The result? A #1 soundclick.com remix of Coldplay's "Clocks" at the ripe age of 16. Fast forward 5 years later.....

Many people that know this young producer already, DJ Benny (given name Ben Appell), know him for the work he has done in the local music scene through his DJ residencies at Artbeat in Lowell, a former street-teamer for up and coming hip-hop group "Project Move," as well as his noted radio spots on WERS's 88.9 @ Night. However, what most don't know of is his potential. Not only as a hip-hop businessperson and plain old DJ, but also as a talented producer and MC.

Rubbing arms with local MC's from George Watsky, to Raydar Ellis, to M-Dot, as well as other up-and-coming New England hip-hop acts such as Berklee contest winner, Nesi, Benny's network is damn tight. Almost as tight as those kick and snare sequences you've heard on his myspace page (listed below). Hoping to produce an LP in the near future, tracks like "The Price is Wrong," already showcase his potential, as he directed, shot, and edited the music video for it as only a senior in high school. Currently an audio major at Emerson College, Benny has a grasp on one thing that many producers and MC's tend to miss: the engineering aspect of it all. Having recently built up a small home studio and now a student of the prestigious WERS Live Mix program, Benny takes his craft seriously and hopes to transfer it to a live stage as much as possible. He aspires to the production and performance techniques of local hip-hop underdogs Insight and Edan.

Benny hopes to do two things in the world of hip-hop: Be himself, and be challenging. He hopes whoever listens feels him harder than a desperate puppy.
