Take Me Back Lyrics

As children we want to be loved
Children all know how to give love
It's stripped away, little more day by day
And I lose myself in this big world
A piece of myself every day I give so freely
It's hard to even notice a change

Oh, come on, take me back
Take me back to then, let me see love again

We all hurt others for nothing
I can't find a reason at all but hate is raging
And war comes so easy to men
I'm so tired of the darkness
It's hard to kindle heat for the fire
But I know there is hope for the hopeless

Oh, come on, take me back
Take me back to then, let me see love again

Mindy rose to fame in 2003 when she was the first artist signed to contribute to the Dolly Parton tribute album Just Because I'm a Woman: Songs of Dolly Parton, on which she sang a cover of Parton's classic "Jolene". Later Dolly Parton followed by adding backing vocals to a new mix of the song, which was then featured on Smith's debut album that was released in January 2004, One Moment More.

In 2006 she released her second album Long Island Shores. Smith included Buddy Miller as a duet vocalist for What If the World Stops Turning?

In October 2007, Smith released a Christmas album, My Holiday. In addition to several standards, Smith wrote six original Christmas-themed songs. One standout, I Know the Reason, includes duet vocals by Thad Cockrell.
