Telephone Lyrics

I can't be here anymore,
Just want it to be over. (Over.)
Wanna walk where the clouds are big,
An' covered in clover (Clouds of clover.)
I'm sorry I ever called.
Shoulda never, ever, ever picked up the 'phone. (Shoulda forgot your number.)
It's turned into a scary dream.
I never want it back at all.

I never really thought you would answer.
Now it's a big blown up thing.
I wish you hadn't been at home when the telephone rang.
When the telephone rang.

I've looked in faces that just looked away.
The eyes were dim and cloudy. (Can't see a thing.)
The pain of livin' with the hand that's dealt,
Is more than I can stand. (Can you take it? Can you take it? Can you take it?)
I can't forget all the mistakes I made,
It'd take a lifetime to erase them. (No, I can't go back.)
An' even I would never change a thing,
I can't waste any more time. (Time's a wastin', time's a wastin'.)

I never really thought you would answer.
Now it's a big blown up thing.
I wish you hadn't been at home when the telephone rang.
When the telephone rang.

Instrumental break.

I'm gettin' old an' my friends are few;
We're crossin' that big mountain. (Almost to the top, almost to the top.)
The sky fills of with the stars and moon and rain,
Pours like a fountain. (Water fallin' down.)
Oh, I could sit here in the midnight air,
An' look at what this life takes from me. (An' what it gives to you.)
An' count the reasons why I can't stand myself.
Just had to say these things anyway.

I never really thought you would answer.
Now it's a big blown up thing.
I wish you hadn't been at home when the telephone rang.
When the telephone rang.
When the telephone rang.

The ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, when the telephone rang.
The ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, when the telephone rang.
Oh, I wish you hadn't been at home when the telephone rang.
When the telephone rang.
When the telephone rang.

Shelby Lynne (born Shelby Lynn Moorer, October 22, 1968, Quantico, Virginia) is an American singer, songwriter and actress.

Lynne's first recording for Epic was a duet with George Jones, "If I Could Bottle This Up", which became a top-50 hit in 1988. In 2000 she won a Grammy award for "Best New Artist", despite the fact that she had been recording and releasing records for more than ten years

With Tears, Lies, and Alibis the follow-up to 2008's Just A Little Lovin' and the first release on her own label, Everso Records, Shelby Lynne affirms her position as a visionary, iconoclastic artist who deftly weaves country, soul, rock, blues, pop and folk influences to forge her own unique style. Like Identity Crisis (2003) and Suit Yourself (2005), this sparse, unguarded collection was produced by Lynne, who evokes a live-in-the-studio vibe from a stellar group of musicians. Born in Quantico, VA, she grew up in Jackson, AL and headed to Nashville at an early age. At 18, Lynne s demos landed her an appearance on TNN s Nashville Now series, which led to a Top 50 duet ( "If I Could Bottle This Up" ) with George Jones and a record deal. Following the release of the critically acclaimed I Am Shelby Lynne in 2000, she won the GRAMMY® for Best New Artist. She made her acting debut in 2005, playing Johnny Cash's mother in the Fox Searchlight motion picture Walk the Line. Read more on Last.fm.
